It isn't suprising that I like video games. I love all sorts of games, I like RPGs, Anime Fighters, Shooters, Bullet hells, I primarily play games on my computer although I also dabble on my 3DS, PSP and PSVita. My art and the games I make are very heavily influenced by all my favorite games, especially the games with more interesting art directions.
Hylics is one of my favorite games ever. The art style singlehandedly makes the game, the heavily edited surrealist clay models make the game immediately stand out. Hylics isn't the best gameplay wise, its repettetive and the combat is simple if not boring, but the music, visuals and writing make it a game that I will always love even if I dont love replaying it because of the gameplay. It took me several tries to really get into Hylics, the first couple attempts I just got lost and gave up before finishing the first area, but once I figured it out and played the whole game through I was hooked. While I own Hylics 2 I feel like I'm in that same state as I was before with the first game, I started the game, got lost, and closed it. Although I have heard the soundtrack for Hylics 2 in full thousands of times by now I'm sure, I adore the music that Mason Lindroth and Chuck Salamone made together, I especially love the track Fancy Meat Computer for its fun instruments and beats.
Postal 2 is another very important game to me, I first played the game pirated on my windows 8 laptop running at a semi stable 20 fps, but ever since I played the game I've been in love. At first I loved it for the violence and freedom of gameplay but I feel like Postal 2 is more then just the game you play to shoot and pee on random people. The game's tone is simply beautiful, the mix of horror and satirical american comedy mixes so beautifully with eachother and the soundtrack aiding the experience. The game's soundtrack is a weird mix of funky muzak and grim eerie sounds and background noise that sounds like it belongs in Silent Hill. This tone of Postal 2 likely comes from the tone of the first game which is more definitively a horror game with how it presents the story of the demented state of the postal dude's mind. Postal 2 is a great game, and although it has plenty of insensitive jokes at the expense of others I think it should be looked at as something more then what it has been. The atmosphere and tone is why I dislike Postal 4, although the game has much better combat and immediate gameplay, it fails to nail the same tone and atmosphere as Postal 2 because the game leans too heavy into the comedy aspect of the game.
I love Space Funeral! Space Funeral is one of my favorite RPGMaker games. I love the way that Space Funeral delivers an interesting yet absurd story without trying hard to look conventionally good, the art style of the game with bright colors that dont mix with heavy use of weird characters with dark theming is great. The use of wizards also makes me immediately love the game (I LOVE WIZARDS !!!!) Space Funeral is also absurdly hilarious all the time, its just a blast to play. I wish I could write more and more and more about Space Funeral but it really is a simple and fun game, it's worth playing no matter what and I love it.
